Arson suspected as South End town homes go up in flames

Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire early Monday morning at a construction site that required more than 60 personnel to put out the flames.

Townhouses were being built at the site, across from the Midnight Diner on South Tryon Street and South Boulevard. Firefighters suspect arson was the cause.

Although there was no expected completion date, each townhome was expected to sell from $700,000 to $900,000.

According to WSOC-TV, investigators said clothes were found inside the townhouses, which they say indicates homeless people may have been the cause.

No one was hurt during the incident.
