Here’s the latest on Lidl stores opening in the Carolinas

The newest contender in a competitive grocery market is opening stores surrounding Charlotte.

The low-priced grocery chain Lidl is setting up shop throughout the Carolinas with locations set to open in 2018.

The Observer reported there is no word on why the South Charlotte store has yet to open, but many others within an hour of Charlotte have opened. A rumored location has been confirmed in Indian Trail across from the Wal-Mart on Highway 74, and work has begun on the new building.

A couple months ago, Lidl announced a distribution facility in Cartersville, Georgia, that will create 250 jobs over five years and cost the grocer $100 million to get off the ground.
