What you need to know for Mecklenburg County’s election today

Local elections are today in each North Carolina county. Here is a quick primer on what you need to know:

Who is running?

Charlotte is voting in a new mayor this year. The race is between Democratic nominee Vi Lyles and Republican nominee Kenny Smith. Other seats up for grabs include spots on the board of education and city council. You can find a whole list of candidates by clicking here for Mecklenburg County.

There is also a $922 million bond referendum that will go toward Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools to improve infrastructure.
